I saw this linked over at Neil Gaiman’s blog and thought I’d share it here as well.

The Earth’s greatest SF and fantasy magazine (according to the Earth’s greatest SF and fantasy magazine) SFX is running an online poll to find the top fifty science fiction and fantasy authors of all time. They’re giving everyone five votes with a standard scoring system of 5 points for your top place down to 1 point for your fifth fave.

It currently seems that J R R Tolkien and Terry Pratchett are battling it out for first place, but there are a lot of interesting entries thus far. I have to admit that trying to pin down my five favourite SFF authors and put those five in order of preference is a task nigh on impossible. I will try nevertheless and add my opinion to the poll.

SFX is a UK based magazine so the votes certainly seem to have a slight UK-centric bias at the moment. Which is no bad thing – some of the best authors are British. It will be interesting to see what they come up with in the end.

You can read about the whole thing and cast your votes here or here. You’ve got until the end of April to get involved.
