As a sci fi and fantasy writer I’m a big fan of this idea. I picked it up from the blog of my friend, author David B Coe who directed his readers to this LiveJournal post by Sharon Lee.

(Yeah, the apostrophe bothers me too – I’ve mentioned it on the Facebook page where this image came from!)

The basic premise is a day to celebrate writers of science fiction and fantasy – for readers, you can talk about your favourite writers or those that influenced you the most, and read some quality sf/f. If you’re a sf/f writer, use the day to talk about the writers that came before and inspired you; and make sure you write some sf/f stuff on that day too.

There’s a Facebook group already, which you can find here.

As David said in his post:

Personally, I think it’s a great idea and I look forward to celebrating Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Day by writing some fantasy, which, I have to admit, is just what I would be doing on a Tuesday in June anyway. But hey! Maybe I’ll get some presents….

I couldn’t agree more. All presents gladly received – might I suggest a roast dinner and a tankard of quality ale?
