I’ve had quite a few queries regarding the sequel to RealmShift. There are people asking if there will be a sequel, when there will be a sequel, if there will be other books following the characters that aren’t direct sequels and so on. It’s very flattering to keep receiving these emails as the primary theme throughout is that people want more. One kind soul has already pre-ordered the sequel from Infinitas Bookshop. He’s my kind of reader. So I thought I’d just drop a quick post on here to answer the more general questions on the subject.
Firstly, yes, there is a sequel to RealmShift on the way. While it’s a sequel, it could also be read as a stand-alone novel. Obviously, as with all things like this, you’ll get a lot more out of it if you’ve read RealmShift first. I’m hoping to have it ready for release around the middle of next year. It’s difficult to stick to any kind of deadline as life has an annoying habit of getting in the way of my writing hours. The more people you tell about RealmShift, the closer to the best-seller lists I’ll get and, therefore, the more time I’ll have for writing. So get all your friends and family to buy a copy of RealmShift now – they’ll be directly contributing to the early release of the sequel. (Is that bribery? Well, I’ve never claimed to be above a bit of well intended bribery).
The manuscript of the sequel is currently at just over 50,000 words in the first draft. That’s about a third of the way there. Then there’s the editing, re-editing, test readers, proof reading, re-editing again, mild self-effacing panic, broad ranging terror and fear of acceptance by the masses then, eventually, the release.
People have also asked what it’s about and what it’s called. Well, I’m not telling. You’ll just have to wait and see. For now, let’s just say that Isiah will be tested beyond anything he’s experienced before and the whole nature of his existence will be questioned.
So stick with me. It’s on the way and I want it to be the best book I can give you, so I won’t be rushing it. Meanwhile, I plan to set up a page of previously published short stories on this site soon, so keep an eye out for that. And keep the emails coming. The more you lot hassle me, the harder I work on getting the next one out to you.
