This is a page dedicated to sharing links for writing markets. As a writer I’ve collected many places over the years that are open to submissions. Some of these places have published my work, some I’m still trying to crack. There are online and print magazines listed here. The majority of these are for short stories as that’s one of my favourite mediums. I love writing and reading short stories and always get a buzz when someone does me the honour of publishing something I’ve written. There are some places here open to novels and some open to both novels and short stories.
The sites listed are a mixture of pro, semi-pro and FTL markets. That means places that pay professional rates for your work, places that pay nominal amounts and places that don’t pay at all (FTL means For The Love). There are also a wide variety of submission guidelines – make sure that whenever you visit a new market and consider sending them your work that you read the submission guidelines carefully. The first way to get your work ignored is to not follow the specific guidelines of any given market. They won’t even bother to read your story.
Also, bear in mind that I’m a speculative fiction writer, so most of these links are to markets that prefer fantasy, sci-fi and horror. But not all of them, so take the time to have a look.
First off, here are some digest sites that list many more markets than I’ve put on this page. If you want a really broad range of potential sales avenues, spend some time at these sites:
Ralan.com
duotrope’s digest
Semiprozine Directory
There are more places like the three listed above, so have a search around the net for them.
Aussie authors, you have a very special page available in Inkspillers, which is reguarly updated with markets, anthologies and competitions:
Below are some of the markets that I’ve found during my time as a writer that have published my work or that I would like to publish my work, or some that I think publish good work even though I haven’t tried them. Where possible I’ve linked directly to submission guidelines.
