It’s Easter – time for Christian hypocrisy

It would be funnier if it wasn’t so fucking tragic, but you can always get a laugh when the Christian bigwigs come out with their Easter messages. My favourite so far this year is this one from Anthony Fisher, the new Archbishop of Parramatta (NSW, Australia):

”Last century we tried godlessness on a grand scale and the effects were devastating,” he said.

”Nazism, Stalinism, Pol-Pottery, mass murder and broken relationships: all promoted by state-imposed atheism or culture-insinuated secularism.”

As opposed to the great successes of previous, godfull centuries like, say, The Crusades? The Inquisition? The Witch Hunts? Or even recent years with those not falling to godlessness, leading to suicide bombers, murder of doctors and “honour killings” of women among many, many others?

Sure, Anthony Fisher – it’s the last century of “godlessness” that was devastating.

What a fuckwit.

There’ll be more, I’m sure, but we’ve started well this year.

yeah back in ya box Anthony! why do these guys only come out and speak their mind at Easter and Xmas – shouldnt they be trying to keep their herd from fleeing daily? I guess the other 363 days they are spin doctoring and covering for all their mates who get busted doing un-godly things!!

It would be nice if they used the message to, say, apologise for all the sexual abuse and promise to try harder in future, instead of trying to tell everyone else they’re fucked.

yep, but they are so high and mighty remember! they ruled us plebs for 1500 years without so much as a back answer so i guess it would be abit overwhelming.

Someone posted last night that a true atheist would wipe their ass with their right hand and something something thus insulting all 3 major religions at once – My comment about a true atheist not needing to stoop so low and deliberately insult other religions, cause they simple dont matter to them was met with a barrage of other people claiming they should most definitely live to insult religion, to show they are superior…!!! – People are fucked no matter what they do or dont believe in!

Let me interject with a little paganism as a counterpoint to this supposedly Christian time of year ….
The ancient Germans used to worship the goddess Ostara, whose symbol was an egg (representing life and fertility). This has then been bastardised and incorporated into Christian celebrations.
At the end of April the festival of Beltane is then celebrated (in the northern Hemisphere). In England this is still quite evident, with May Poles still to be seen (and a Bank Holiday to boot!)

And even that barely scratches the surface, Debbie. Reminds me a bit of this post I wrote a few years ago on the subject of Easter: http://www.alanbaxteronline.com/2006/04/14/of-hippies-and-eggs.html

Cool – just read it – and it sums things up nicely.

And even that is missing lots of details. :)
