James - I couldn't agree more.

The readers will reduce in price quickly as more people get on board.

$1.75 for one of your eBooks - that's great value. Now I just need to fork out $350 for an eReader!

Seriously though, if eBook technology takes off, it's going to revolutionise the publishing industry in the same way that the iPod revolutionised music. Instead of lesser known authors having to go down the 'print on demand' route, where the cost of a book is much more (due to the lower volumes) than the well known authors they are competing against, they will be able to produce an eBook at much lower costs than established authors. This then makes it far more likely that people will give a new author a try and really weakens the dominance of the big publishers.

Is Amazon trying to be the next Apple? I'm not betting against it.

Now if they could just reduce the price of those readers.....
